Who should I buy Christmas presents for?

Does anybody really buy presents for the mailman, hair stylist, paper boy/girl . . .etc? I plan on buying for my immediate family (kids, husband, parents, siblings), but not sure about my in-laws (who never acknowledge my gifts with thanks or purchase anything for me or my kids). Should I buy them anything? They happen to be Jewish, but their treatment is the same for birthday presents too. And what about my kids teachers? They are in daycare and each have two teachers. What should I buy them? When is enough really enough? By the way, my spending budget is only $600. Thanks!

The immediate family of course..If the in-laws dont acknowledge, I wouldnt worry about them...Yes something for the teachers is nice, that is if you %26amp; the kids like them too..

Forget your relatives. Forget your kids. Buy me a nice present, and I'll be your very good friend. Or send cash, whatever.

I would buy only for the people that you think need it. If your in-laws do not celebrate and can't even say thanks when you do, I wouldn't. And if questions arise, state that you are respecting their traditions. I don't buy for the mail man or the hair dresser. I buy for certain co-workers that I am close to and my kids daycare ladies. They are with my kids more then I tend to be and no amount of money is worth what they do, so I get them a little something to show I really do care.

i dont think you should have to buy presents for anyone but immediate family. if you plan on going to inlaws houses for dinner or something then maybe a small gift in that case. bring a pie or a bottle of wine instead? i wouldnt worry about the teachers and mailman and all that. and if you do, go to the dollar stores and do something small like those candy filled mugs or like a 5 dollar gift card or something. 5 bux for a gas station or mcdonals will get them a couple of cups of coffee for those cold days. for the kids you could bake or even buy cookies or something and let them bring them in the day before christmas. treats for everyone in that case, even the teachers.

For the in-laws, I would pass. Maybe a bottle of wine (that you can drink too!)

For the mailman, a gift certificate or card with cash. For the hairdresser - depends on how often you see her and if you have an appointment near Christmas. An extra generous tip in a card would be appreciated I'm sure.

I'd say a card for kids teachers.

Well probably their family and friends might buy them something, but if you want to buy them something, it could be something small, but has value to them. You could also buy your in-laws something, but you don't necessarily have to. Don't treat them wrong because they do that to you and the kids, continue to give, but know when to draw the line. The teachers would probably be appreciative of your gift, but you don't have to buy them anything, but your kids may want a lot of things and $600 doesn't go to far these days. If your budget is only $600, then you should just focus on buying gifts for your family members and a few friends.
