my parents both came from brazil to the US to start a new life. where i grew up i was the only brazilian kid all my friends were white and black i never had any latino friends. i only speak english i don't have a accent i sound just like any average american. then i moved to this place in new jersey where 60% of the people are brazilian so i thought "cool people of the same backround as me" but i came to be ashamed of my brazilian heritage. All the kids here are the worst example of what a brazilian american is.

they wax their eyebrows,they spike their hair, they blast techno,they wheir puka shells even though they've never even touched a surfboard in their live's,they workout and try to act tough and pussy out if someone tries to start a real fight with them, and worst of all they do this while repin their brazilian!

Are you serious?? I am a Brazilian and I'm very proud. I gotta tell you that you really need to know real Brazilian people, the ones in NJ are so Americanized, it is ridiculous....but i can assure you that 98% of the Brazilians are completely different people from the ones you've got to know. Besides if only you knew what Brazil is, I'm sure you'd be very proud.

I think you shouldn't care about those "brazilians" Believe me, I know, because I've met many Brazilians here in the US that sometimes they make me feel ashamed of my country and people. BUT I know that those people are only a minority( and they are only located here in the US), besides i know that real brazilians are very laid back, and cool people. So don't worry. You should go to Brazil and you'll see the tremendous difference...

I don't see a reason for you to be ashamed of you heritage. Just because they are different than you, doesn't mean that you are bad.

My advice will be, never be ashamed of your heritage. Your background is part of you, so you are American and Brazilian at the same time, take the best of both cultures and do the best you can do.

And... since you are from Brazil probably you are descendant of europeans anyway.

I'm from Argentina, my husband and kids are American and I try to teach them about our culture and heritage everyday. But will depend on them in the future to keep up with that, but I will never be ashamed to be hispanic.

you should'nt be ashamed at all. race can affect how people think and act and this can dilute their sense of originality and they can try to act like everyone else for a sense of belonging. it seems like you got out of the stereotype where you live.

Instead your a great example that all sterotypes arent true, that although you have an ethnicity your still an individual and ppl should look at others for themselves rather then generalizes them as a group .
