Why was i born with different color hair?

I was born and grew up with reddish brown hair, but now i have regualr brown hair. my little brother was born with brown hair, but as a little kid turned blonde, and then at about age 10 his hair turned brown again and has remained so for the last 10 years. What causes this?

I was light brownish/blonde as a child and then my hair turned to a reddish light blondish brown. Hard to explain. I hate it so I dye it.

i think its our ancestors who are responsible for this phenomena. I was born with a thick black hair and by the time i was 6 months old, my hair was so blonde it looked white. Then when i was 6 it was strawberry blonde and then it turned dishwater blonde or ash blonde and now its a medium brown with blonde highlights (in the summer when i'm in the sun more- i get more highlights). I'm almost half native american and who knows what the rest of my ancestors were. I know there are some Irish in the ancestor pool because of the freckles that quite a few of us have.
