Have a question about lice?

My daughter was outside playing in her sandbox and my neighbours 2 grandchildren came over to play with her. I aksed them why they cut all their hair off and the older girl told me they had lice. They played in the sandbox for about 10 minutes but didn't really touch each other, I also had my daughter's hair piled up under a hat. Is there anyway she could get the lice from these kids?? I also gave my daughter a bath and washed all her clothes she had on as soon as we came inside. Thanks!

Lice is very contagious but you should be fine. Be sure to watch her and if she starts itching you should check her head for nits. They like the area right behind the ears and at the base of the head.

Shaving the head should have ridded them of the lice. But to answer your question yes if they had lice they could still have gotten them. thats if they have then still!

they should be fine if they didnt have any contact with them... make sure to wash her very well... hope this works =]

It's possible. I would check her head for eggs. And check it everyday for about a week. It also wouldn't hurt if you bought some RID and used it in her hair. Keep them little buggers from spreading.

Good luck.

to be absolutely sure go and buy a bottle of "RID" and wash your daughters hair and bedding. Lice is a common problem in schools, and daycare, across the nation. We have regular head checks where I teach. It's nothing to be ashamed of but it does need to be controlled. To ease your mind.. buy the RID..It is a shampoo. and can be used in the washer too.Shaving the head usually means a bad infestation or ignorance of the parent as to treatment . Poor kids....All they really needed was the RId.

Lice cannot jump from one person to another but they do crawl effectively. I think you should be fine but you need to do a head check every day for a while. You are looking for nits very close to the head. Check section by section very carefully. It also helps to comb with a fine tooth comb when the hair is wet. Good luck.

As long as they did not make contact, she should be okay.

If she does get it or if you want to play it safe, wash her clothes in hot water and put them in the dryer (not with other clothes). RID shampoo may or may not work. I live in the south and for some reason lice seems to be a common thing around here (thankfully, my children have never had it). Get some olive oil and soak her hair with it. Then using a fine tooth comb, check for nits. They should slide off easily if there are any in her hair.

To prevent lice or nits, keep her hair short or in a tight pony tail. Spray it with hairspray, also.

If she does get them, make sure you vacuum your carpet with a clean bag and discard afterwards. Also, wash her bed sheets in hot water as well. Any stuffed animal should be bagged in a tight garbage bag for a few days.

To prevent any other nits, make sure the live louse bug is not in her hair. You will know it when you see it. I teach school and I have seen several louse bugs and many nits.

The cleanest and most privileged children have had it.

Hope all this info helps.
