Isn't he just as much white/caucasion as he is black? He looks like a mixed kid to me.. When I see him I see just as much white as I do black, My wife and I look at our kids and wonder sometimes... My wife is Black Asian (from trinadad) and I am white guy from Arizona... One of our kids looks blanco white with very light brown hair, one looks positively white asian mix, the other looks like a mix of all three, (beautiful kids by the way...)
Why do they refer to Barak Obama as Black? Isn't he Just as much White?
this country was built on hatred. that's why hillary played the race card because she knew that it would stir a controversy of racism that would pit black voters against white voters. and the issues would come second, if at all.
obama's mother was a white woman. his father was a black man.
but small minded americans only see a black man trying to beomce president (just as hillary wanted obama to be viewed).
how sad. how so very sad that this country can't see beyond a person's skin color long enough to focus on who might can make this nation a better place for ALL who lives here.
Why do they refer to Barak Obama as Black? Isn't he Just as much White?
Because "first serious of mixed race Presidential contender" doesn't have as much impact.
Why do they refer to Barak Obama as Black? Isn't he Just as much White?
BECAUSE BLACK is WORKING for him right now.....IF WHITE were working for him he would use that!
Why do they refer to Barak Obama as Black? Isn't he Just as much White?
Exactly, why should gender or race even be apart of you we choose and why. That is why there is still racism and sexism in the country...because people just keep talking about it.
Why do they refer to Barak Obama as Black? Isn't he Just as much White?

Why do they refer to Barak Obama as Black? Isn't he Just as much White?
Because he appears more black than white.

I agree, he's biracial. Everyone knows his history, but we just ignore it. Perhaps it goes back to our country's old one drop rule? I'm sure many people still ascribe to this belief. I prefer to think that I'll raise my children to embrace both of their histories, but I know that in many cases, society will choose for them- and I guess that's what's happening to him. I guess I'm saying I'm not sure what he's chosen for himself, and in public opinion, it may not even matter. One more issue is that many African American people in this country have European heritage (the average amount is 19%).
I think calling him African-American is also a stretch, but this is more because we have too-simplistic a label. But I don't know his level of acculturation. Again, he may not have had much choice, depending how he was treated. I do know the church he attends in Chicago (Trinity UCC) is very Afrocentric in nature.

Probably because the labels Americans have tended to use are a little misleading. Though we use the terms white and black historically the country has probably thought more along the lines of white and non-white.
For example, in the old South children born to slave mothers but fathered by whites were still slaves, and thus "black."
Many Americans still tend to consider children of mixed parentage as members of the minority group, since by their standards they are not "white."
It's all just a bunch of nonsense anyway and one can only hope that we are coming closer to the day that Dr. King dreamed of, when all will be judged by the content of their character above all else.

Mocha.

Oh now you're lying. He doesn't look liked a "mixed kid" . There are black people lighter than him and both of their parents are black. The man looks black that's why he is called black. He also says that he is a black man so does his wife. I wonder if Barack Obama was some average Joe on the street would you and anyone else be so quick to call him mixed. I think not.
Why do they refer to Barak Obama as Black? Isn't he Just as much White?
he wont even respect our flag

Good thought. When you think about it, that is what is strange about this situation. The first woman to get this far in a presidential election is also the wife of a former president. The first African American to get this far in a presidential election is also half white. I guess we have to start somewhere.

Is this a determinant in your vote? I mean really, is this what you will base your vote on? Or, are you concerned about whats important here, like the cost of food, gas, high taxes, job loss, health care, housing issues, safety, your ability to send your children to school, social security, and so on. Get real! If Obama isn't taking a stand on what people should call him, why should you? If anything, Obama is trying really hard here to get at the important issues that CAN BE CHANGED, not issues that can't be, like the color of his skin.....white dude, stay focused on what's important, you should be tired of talking about skin color, white men should be the last folks talking about skin color, stay focused on what's important...do it for all of us, please, especially for your kids!

That's unfortunately the 'black side' of this nation which is apparently color-conscious or should be say 'color-blind'!
