Should I be concerned?

My son has some strange habits! The weirdest one? He likes to try to EAT my hair! When we are playing, or whenever he can get his hands on it (not hard, my hair is very long), he puts it in his mouth and tries to chew on it! And if he doesn't get the end, he bites at the back of my head to get at the hair! Also, I know toddlers like to put things in their mouth, but my son also likes to bite mine or my husband's hands and arms, and sometimes he will lick my arm and has even tried to suck on it before! He did the same thing to my face, he was giving me a bedtime kiss on the cheek and sucked on my cheekbone! I was like what in the world, and he started laughing, thought it was hilarious! The last thing is he intentionally bumps his head on things! I'm so worried he'll actually hurt himself! Are these things normal? I've asked some of my friends if their kids ever did it, and they haven't had these issues.. opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Should I be concerned?

These habits are not that out of the ordinary. Most of them are kind of a game to him plus he is also using it as a way to show affection. I have seen a lot of kids try to eat hair and bang their heads on things. When my two year old daughter gets worked up playing she will head but me and even slaps her own face. The only thing I would try to curtail would be the biting. Ever time he tries it, stop look him in the eye and sternly tell him "We don't bite." And depending on his age (if he is over 2) tell him that biting will land him in naughty time. It you properly address the biting these other actions will slow down as well.

As for the head banging, I seriously doubt he will do it hard enough to cause any permant damage. Eventually he will give himself some minor pain or a bruise or two and figure out on his own not to do it. If you react in a panic every time he does it he is realizing he is getting extra attention with it. I would ignore it or casually tell him that he is going to hurt himself if he keeps doing it. But act relatively unconcerned.

Should I be concerned?

I have two children and I did not have these problems with either of them. If you really are concerned, ask his pediatrician.

Should I be concerned?

well i dont know about the eating of the hair, but of course kids like to put everything in their mouths,,but my son is 14 mos and loves to bang his head on the wall, i think he likes the sound. all i can do is make him stop, because he doesnt understand that it could be harmful..check with the dr.
