MY kid is , in band that's "alternative/punk". Is is odd that he wears pink and tight

I know I should be more open-minded (My wife says "remember the HIppie days?) but I just cant' get past his "look": long 2-tone hair, tight pink/black shirts, tight jeans (like Punks) and sometimes makeup! AM I a dud or do I need to tell him what's what? Some kids think he's gay but he says he's not...(I dont' care...well, I DO!)...but that's not the point!

thats what "punks" are all about...he'll grow out of it.. and what if his band makes it big?? bet ya won't be complaining then!

You bet I won't! And they probably WILL go far...they're so talented. I guess I just want them to be another Aerosmith! Report It

p.s....He HAS been called an "Emo", as someone wrote, but when my wife asked him if he was, he flipped! I don't get it...and i don't think I'm SUPPOSED to. I guess I was a pretty boring teenager! Report It

get over it! let him dress the way he wants! that makes him what he is! its his choice! u should be more open minded

MY kid is , in band that's "alternative/punk". Is is odd that he wears pink and tight shirts?

im not that way, put its very normal believe it or not... I can guess hes not a jock, so instead of acting a dressing like one(nice and neat) he went his own way. Very normal. And being in a band has 80 percent to do with it. VERY VERY NORMAL.

Not gay at all

MY kid is , in band that's "alternative/punk". Is is odd that he wears pink and tight shirts?

eh, it's the style. let him do it. besides, even if you tell him not to, he will do it anyway!

MY kid is , in band that's "alternative/punk". Is is odd that he wears pink and tight shirts?

spound more like hes glam/punk.Maybe he needs some parental help.Something keeps him interested in pink and black tight pants and whatever elese he likes.

Sounds like he's just trying to stand out which is brave when your young, you should be proud to have such an individual as a son. Anyway, you can't be in a rock band and wear polo shirts and khakis, it just doesn't work!! :)

It's just what is in now. Scary as it might be, sit back and wait for it to pass. If you make an issue of it, your kid is going to rebel further.

i know what you mean man... im 17 and i can understand tight cloths and long hair... look at zeppelin... but the pink, 2 tone hair, and makeup is kind of out there. its ok i guess if you have made it big and people respect you for your music... i know the style because a lot of my favorite bands do the same... but to a kid in highschool people could get the wrong idea

MY kid is , in band that's "alternative/punk". Is is odd that he wears pink and tight shirts?

Well to tell you the truth my brother wears tight shirts and pants. My closest guys friends do like pink and they also wear it. I say don't worry about it, it might just pass as sort of a phase.

MY kid is , in band that's "alternative/punk". Is is odd that he wears pink and tight shirts?

no!.. its just the style of that type f music and the listeners that they are trying to dress/appeal to..

*its just a style of the type of music i guess.

ive seen music videos of people who dress that ways, but its just because of the band, and how the band dresses like that.

It's official. You're old.

MY kid is , in band that's "alternative/punk". Is is odd that he wears pink and tight shirts?

It's called Emo, it's music/fashsion. My brother does the same thing. It doesn't mean anything. It's just a choice style. Emo is very much "hip" now a days. Lots of younger guys and girls dress that way. It's ok, I promise.

If your biggest worry about your teenage son is that you find his clothing to be a little weird, then you've raised a pretty good kid! His multi-colored hair isn't hurting him or anyone else - just chalk it up to self expression. And if he isn't concerned by what "some kids" think about his clothing, then you probably shouldn't be either.

LOL. I hear you sir. I see those "punk" Kids walking down the road wearing pink shirts and Pippy long stocking socks. I shake my head as I drive by. I don't know why I find myself doing that. Some of those kids are the nicest students and get good grades. I say to myself that I would never let my kid leave the house looking like that...but can you really stop them from being who they want to be? NOPE! Just be thankful that your son is healthy and has legs to put thoes tight jeans on. Thats what I tell my self..........It all could be worse. Let him be, he may grow out of it!

Well, I have three elementry aged kids, and I can't imagine one of my kids dressed how you described. However, I suppouse demanding that he dress a different way (normal) would make him rebel. Maybe a calm, non threatening talk--more like opinion in passing--would make him think. *shrug* I would say the bottom line is to keep the lines of communication open. If he feels he can talk to you without being judged or whatever, you can rest assured he'll feel he can trust you.

Come back onto yahoo answers in 10 years when I need to hear the same thing!!!! ;)

Good luck!

It's a PHASE! Let him be who he is, he will grow out of it. It is a very normal style and this does NOT mean he's gay. When I was a teenager I went through the same thing and my parents hated it - crazy colored hair, strange clothing, etc. I grew out of it and I am quite normal looking these days. Just let him express himself and don't worry about what other people say. He will be thankful in the future that you gave him a chance to be who he wanted to be and didn't judge him at that time in his life. And just to let you know many guys wear pink these days, not just punk rockers!

Well Dad... it sounds to me like you do have issues about his sexuality. Which is okay, we all have our own beliefs and issues. First off, you didn't mention how old he is. I'll assume he's around 15/16...

The first step I would take is to sit down and talk to your son. Get involved in the things he likes/loves - even if YOU can't stand them. He may be in a punk band, but he's obviously doing this for a possibility of a few reasons... He may be loving the shock value he gets from people. He may be looking for attention. He may just love the look. My advice would be to pull out some goofy pics of what YOU dressed like at his age. Don't pretend to love what he wears, but get in his head as to why he wears that stuff.

If it's keeping him from getting a job, distracting him in school...that's when you have to draw the line with a compromise with him as to how extreme and when its appropriate. Back him in wanting to express himself, but also explain why it's important for him to understand that sometimes it has to be toned down just a touch.

None of the things you mentioned are permanent, so don't worry too much about it. He's going to be his own person and the more you try and stop that the more extreme he will become - just to spite you.

We've been there...right? =)

Happy Holidays from this mother to YOU.

Sounds like what the preppy guys at school wear...

I've always envied those kids who were brave enough %26amp; dared to be different in todays dog eat dog world. In todays world you need to be courageous to survive. You're son obviously dos'nt let " what any body else says."Bother him. He's strong. Some day he'll own a big Corperation. SO stand behind him...........

MY kid is , in band that's "alternative/punk". Is is odd that he wears pink and tight shirts?

No, because it's the punk style. If he likes the style, then let him be. Although it does seem like an unusual style for a parent, that's the way kids are.
